THE JOB / Director, Employee Relations

The Director, Employee Relations will lead our Employee Relations team whose core function is to provide consultative and investigation services to aid in the resolution of workplace concerns.

Reporting to the VP, People and Culture, you will play a key role in supporting the internal investigation process, including providing recommendations on investigation outcomes, performance management discussions, and company separations. We're banking on this role to balance employee experiences, business needs, and risks to advance Octagon’s inclusive and equitable culture while ensuring compliance with our policies.

This person will be accountable for working with employees across Octagon, building positive relationships quickly, and leading with Inclusivity, Empowerment, Innovation and Intelligence to think inside of and outside of the box to drive the right solutions.

THE WORK YOU’LL DO

  • Coach managers and employees through interpersonal conflict, performance challenges, etc. to place of resolution and at times termination.
  • Identify and assign training based on development areas
  • Troubleshoot unemployment claim issues with Payroll, Equifax, and former employees.
  • Resolve employee claims issues, process Evidence of Insurability forms, employee benefit inquires
  • Partner with the VP, People and Culture on off-boarding processes: hold follow-up meetings with employees, separation agreement preparation and review with employees, and hold check-ins with the impacted employee prior to the last day.
  • Conduct exit interviews; assess data and trends to provide insight and strategic recommendations that will impact positive changes to our business objectives and culture.
  • Manage the cataloging of new and existing roles and their FLSA designations. Align new roles into our organizational structure and assign job codes and titles.
  • Use data and analytics to identify trends and challenges, predict and mitigate risk, and exercise strong analytical skills using data and anecdotes to develop persuasive narratives and recommendations.
  • Design and maintain HR investigation tools, resources, and training modules, aimed at streamlining the investigation process and instituting HR investigative best practices that are consistent across the enterprise.
  • Ensure compliance with the corporation's ethical standards and examine any non-compliance issues.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 6+ years of HR experience. Ideally within a marketing/agency or professional services setting. You get the pace, appreciate the fluidity, and understand the complexity of how the business affects HR programs.
  • You will be a leader of programs.
    • This means we expect you to know and have experience with the typical HR stuff:
      • Employment laws and compliance in areas like ADA, FLSA, and EEO.
      • Proven success in managing payroll actions and benefit programs, including FMLA and other leave programs.
    • And, we want you to have all the other bells and whistles:
      • Proven planning, organization, communication, and leadership skills.
      • The ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
      • Keen analytical, assessment, and project management/program execution skills.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft (HRIS) preferred, and top-notch technology proficiency - Microsoft Office Suite (including PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in analyzing, manipulating, and reporting on ER investigation data
  • Illustrated ability to deliver on priorities and leverage data to identify trends, gaps, and development/training opportunities
  • A solid sense of accountability, high-quality judgment, and sound decision-making
  • Ability to maneuver in a fast-paced environment, be flexible, and able to pivot quickly through ambiguity and constant change
  • Ability to quickly connect with people across a wide variety of business areas
  • Skilled in MS Excel, Word, SharePoint & PowerPoint; curious about new learning technologies
  • Demonstrated experience managing HR investigations with a high level of confidentiality
  • Advanced HR knowledge, and general knowledge of employment laws and HR investigation best practices.
